Adjustable Pallet
Racking

Low cost

Also referred to as ‘Standard’ pallet racking or APR, this is the most basic, common and cost-effective form of pallet storage.  However, over many years of new innovations, all as listed below, it remains the most popular even for new racking installations.

The Main benefit of APR is that you have 100% selectivity, meaning that you can get any pallet at any time.  You can also use APR for small item picking also with 100% selectivity.  With the constant advances in the fork truck industry, aisles in between racks are getting smaller and smaller, making the space efficiency great.

Drive-In Pallet Racking

Drive In Pallet Racking

Medium cost, at least 2x APR

In general 3-4 times the cost of APR, you will get far more pallets in your warehouse using Drive-In Pallet Racking, as you only need on aisle.  The downside of this, is that you have very limited selectivity of your pallets.  It should only be considered if you have high volumes of exactly the same pallet (same product), and that those pallets are not date sensitive.

If each lane of drive in racking is 6 pallets deep and 4 pallets high, then there will be 24 pallets in that lane, and all need to be exactly the same.  Drive-In pallet racking can also be referred to as Drive-Through pallet racking, which means that you can put pallets in on one side of a lane, and they can be taken out from the other side. This is only efficient when all pallets are put In together, as one load, and are all removed together as one load.

Pallet Live Racking

High cost, around 7x APR

Often referred to as Roller Racking, or Gravity Fed Racking, where a pallet is put on a roller bed at one end and is slowly rolls down to the other end to achieve a First In First Out (FIFO) scenario.  Very space-efficient because you need fewer aisles.

Pallet live racking also has better selectivity than Drive-In racking because each level can have different products.  So, in a 6 pallet deep and 4 pallet high lane, the 6 pallets in the depth must be the same

Pallet Live Warehouse racking
push back racking

Push Back Pallet Racking

High cost, around 5-6x APR

A high density storage system that can hold up to six pallets deep per level. Pallets are placed on the trolley inside the sloped storage lane. The incline of the push-back structure automatically sends pallets from the rear to the front of the lane when the pallet closest the aisle is removed.

Push-back pallet racking is ideal for storing medium-turnover products (with two or more pallets per SKU), through the Last In First Out (LIFO) load method. Access to the stored goods is carried out from a single work aisle.

  • Higher density storage
  • Very little vertical space is wasted
  • Each level can store a different SKU

Shuttle Racking

Medium to high cost, around 5x APR

A shuttle racking system transforms the concept of racking as we know it by enabling large runs of racking to be designed as blocks, eliminating the need for fork lift truck aisles.

The shuttle is placed on rails within the racking system and lifts the pallet from the drop off point and delivers it the next available place in the racking system. The shuttle can also be used to collect the pallet from the racking and present it at the edge of the racking, ready for the forklift to collect.

The shuttle is controlled by a handheld device and can be pre-programmed to automatically collect or deliver the next pallet.
