Warehouse Pallet Racking Inspection

Do I need a racking inspection?
If you would like to keep your pallet racking in good condition, and most importantly – SAFE, you should have an annual pallet racking inspection. The longer you leave a damaged pallet racking from being serviced, the more of a safety risk it can become, and the more expensive your repair bill will be when you do have an inspection.

Racking inspection

Is it a legal requirement to have an annual racking inspection?

It is not a legal requirement and you cannot be prosecuted for not having had a racking inspection. The HSE, however, do ‘recommend’ that your pallet racking is inspected annually. But, if an issue does arise due to injury to personnel. For example, by a pallet racking collapse, you may be held accountable. Similar to how we look at car insurance, it is not needed until we have an accident.

Why should I have a racking inspection?

  • To keep your staff safe
  • To keep your capital equipment in good condition
  • To avoid large repair bills further down the line.

What happens if I don’t?

Until it collapses, or if an accident happens, nothing.

SARI Inspections

At AlphaStor we only provide SARI Racking Inspections, which are the most comprehensive racking inspections available in the UK.

Process of a Racking Inspection

When should I have a Pallet Racking Inspection?

Due to the high demand, and so few SARI Inspectors in the UK, we suggest you plan around 3 months ahead. But, please contact us to see if we have any availability sooner.

It will go in your favour if you can demonstrate to the HSE that you have booked an inspection and are waiting for it to be carried out. So, we suggest you book your inspection at your earliest convenience possible.

Booking

What should I look out for when booking a Racking Inspection?

Some Racking Inspection companies offer cheap inspections. Which identifies all of your damages, but they won’t tell you which component is required to repair the damage.

If you wish for the company to give you a quote for the repairs they will require ANOTHER inspection. They would then identify and measure every component. This adds to the cost of the cheap inspection and then a ‘re-inspection’ to identify components.

This process will cost you more than our full inspection and report, and they will almost certainly take longer to get to the same point.
